Wikipedia would probably be a better reference for this post than anything that I could tell you, but in the least I can give you a brief overview of what the Yongsan Relocation Project is and what we are doing, in a general nutshell.
Currently there is an Army base in Seoul, the capital city of Korea. The Yongsan Garrison dates back to the Korean War, and is without a doubt showing its age. To complicate matters further, its located in downtown Seoul, in prime real estate. Currently the United States is in the process of moving the base south of the city and consolidating with Camp Humphreys in Pyeongtaek.
The project itself is enormous. We are adding 2,400 acres to the existing base, bringing it close to 3,600 acres. When complete, there will be 30 million square feet of building space- 30 million! Currently there are 12 active contracts (current projects that are going on at this point in time) with a value of 1.8 billion- with 57 contracts to go. That’s a total contract value of 12 billion for the entire project.
